Can You Help Me Make My First Hire?

A question we often get asked as coaches is can you help me make my first hire as a business owner or business leader? You might be juggling a few conflicting thoughts on this matter.

You want to scale your business, you want to free up some of your time. You might not want to be doing all of the admin tasks and all those time-consuming tasks that you’d like to get off your plate. But then on the flip side, you also want to make sure you’re hiring the right person.

You also want to make sure that the person you are trusting to represent you is going to be the right employee for your business. It starts with looking at your cash flow forecast.

So we will take you through what even is a cash flow forecast if you don’t know if you don’t have one. We demystify all of the knowledge around the numbers so that you could be confident in who you’re hiring, how much you can afford to pay them, what that means for the business and making sure you’ve got the strategies in place to be confident in those numbers.

Secondly, we take you through the recruitment process itself. All of us on the team have done heaps and heaps of recruitment in the past and we’ve got some genuinely unique strategies in how you can make sure you’re getting the right people on board.

Hiring not just for skill and experience level, but actually hiring for the type of person you want, the type of attitude you need in that team. It’s really important you get person number one right in your business.

So we make sure that you have the recruitment process, the interview questions, any other kind of tests that you might be doing absolutely right to help de-risk that first selection.

The third and final area where you might have some challenges is the onboarding process. Once someone’s in the building, once we’ve helped you through all that selection process, how do you make sure that the that person’s first three months, three to six months are as successful as possible.

You’re sure you’ve got the right person. They’re sure they’re in the right place and you’ve really set them up for success and they have set you up for success.

That first hire really does set the scene for all hires that follow.
