You Helped Rebuild This School

Nepal School

This is a school, about 3 hours North of Kathmandu, that was recently reopened after being destroyed in the 2015 Nepal earthquake. If you came to one of our business coaching workshops in 2016 you helped rebuild this school.

We sent a percentage of our company profits to this project last year and today we saw the first photos of the completed school. Today I’m thinking about what it means to do meaningful work and what part entrepreneurs have to play in making the world a better place.

When we mentor an entrepreneur one of the things we do is clarify what their long term motivations are. We get them to think in concrete terms about what they want to achieve, by when and why it’s important to them.

I’ll let you in on a little secret: some of our clients just want to buy Ferraris and retire at 30 – and we’re fine with that – but it’s the ones who want to save the world that we enjoy working with the most.

Here are some of the amazing projects that our clients have been involved with over the years

  • Serena Cook, CEO of Deliciously Sorted, founded the Ibiza Preservation Fund which has raised more than £300,000 for conservation projects in the Balearic islands.
  • Cofounder of Propercorn Ryan Kohn raised over £100,000 to help Syrian refugees last year
  • Josh Rafter from Outlet Property is the Chairman of the Wig Party, a fundraiser that collects £10,000s for HIV charities every year
  • Together, all our clients have created 100s of fair, well-paid jobs for people in London just by growing their businesses and treating their employees well

So why am I telling you this?

Firstly I wanted to make a point of saying how proud I am to be part of a team that’s genuinely concerned about running a business ethically and trying to make the world a better place – directly through projects like sponsoring the school in Nepal and also by empowering amazing people like Serena, Ryan and Josh

Secondly I want to make a commitment: this year we will do even more.

Right now we’re planning some charity projects that are on a whole different level to what we’ve done before. We’re looking at doing some things that have a real wow factor.

We still need to iron out a few details but get ready for some big announcements over the next few months.
