Is business coaching only needed for businesses in trouble? It’s an assumption that many have made over the years. Well, if the goal is to survive, to just pay bills and salaries, then those businesses might question why they need a business coach.

Though tragically for me, most UK businesses don’t even succeed with that basic goal. However, if your goal is to grow, to scale, to make a positive impact on your communities or industries for those ambitious people who want to realise their true potential, the huge potential that humans…all humans have inside of themselves, then coaching is essential.

When you look at the highest performers across sports and business, they all have coaches. Tiger Woods, in his heyday when he was winning everything, had several coaches. Manchester United had Sir Alex Ferguson. Back in 2011 the then CEO of Google, Eric Schmidt, said everyone should have a coach to give them external perspective on what they’re really doing and how they can improve.

So, if your goal is to be fine, that’s fine. However, if you truly want to achieve much more of your full potential, then everyone needs coaching.

Key takeaways:

  • Coaching isn’t just for businesses in trouble; it’s for anyone aiming to grow and excel.
  • Most UK businesses struggle to even meet basic survival goals, highlighting the need for guidance.
  • High performers in sports and business, like Tiger Woods and Manchester United, always have coaches.
  • Former Google CEO Eric Schmidt advocates for everyone to have a coach for an external perspective.
  • Achieving your full potential requires coaching, regardless of your current success level.
